Samburu National Reserve
Samburu National reserve is special for its arid, dramatic landscapes and as the exclusive home to the & Samburu Special Five & rare northern wildlife species not typically found in southern Kenya. The life-giving Ewaso Nyiro River attracts high concentrations of wildlife, including large number elephants and large predators, against a backdrop of rocky, red-earth scenery.
The special five: The reserve is famous for protecting five species unique to this northern ecosystem: The Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy’s Zebra, Beisa Oryx, Somali Ostrich, and Gerenuk (a long-necked antelope that feeds while standing on its hind legs).
